5-Year-Old Kindergarten Teacher Assistant

 

 

Applicant must have a 2-year associate degree, or 60 semester hours of college course work, or taken and passed the ParaPro Assessment; or a 4-year degree

 

General Statement of Job:

Under occasional supervision, performs tasks that support student success in the classroom setting, often assisting teachers. Reports to the Principal.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Prepares lesson outline and plan in assigned area and submits outline to teacher for review.
  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role playing.
  • Prepares, administers, and grades examinations and assignments.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Monitors and directs student activities in hallways, rest rooms, classrooms, bus stops, parking lots, and any areas adjacent to school buildings.
  • Escorts students to and from activities and oversees activities such as recess, at the library and during art class.
  • Oversees the administration of students’ medicine or other health care requirements.
  • Takes attendance and lunch count.
  • Prepares materials, which may include copying, cutting patterns, and lesson planning.
  • Controls, monitors, and provides direction to authorized or unauthorized persons on the campus and in parking lot areas.
  • Enforces the District and school regulations pertaining to day and evening student activities. 
  • Reports inappropriate student behavior and prepares the necessary incident reports.

A 2-year associate degree, or 60 semester hours of college course work, or taken and passed the ParaPro Assessment; or a 4-year degree


Physical Requirements:

Requires the ability to prepare routine reports and records, performance appraisals, memos, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence:
Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in managing a staff, to learn and understand principles and techniques, to make independent judgments in absence of supervision, and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions, and to counsel and teach students. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds.
Numerical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals, and to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery, and to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination:
Does not require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
Physical Communication:
Requires the ability to talk and/or hear with talking defined as expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and hearing being defined as perceiving nature of sounds by ear.
