8 Hours per day

 

The candidate selected for this position will initially work as a temporary through Kelly staffing for 45 days. After the 45-day trial period, the candidate may be offered a full-time position with benefits.

 

Requires High Schoool Diploma, GED, Workkeys, or WIN Assessment.

 

General Statement of Job

Under regular supervision, performs a variety of basic custodial and grounds-keeping tasks in order to provide a clean and safe environment for students and school personnel.  Reports to the School's Principal/Administrator.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Performs a variety of basic custodial, maintenance and grounds keeping functions, following established regulations and standards for cleanliness and safety.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, cleaning restrooms, hallways, classrooms, offices, cafeteria and other areas of the school building; removing trash; sanitizing surfaces; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, shampooing and buffing floors and carpets; cleaning windows and walls; moving furniture; dusting; restocking soap and paper towel dispensers; removing trash and recycling from grounds; and mowing grass; trimming weeds and shrubbery.

Sets up rooms for special events.

Responds to emergency calls in buildings when necessary.

Operates a variety of equipment which may include a floor buffer, carpet cleaner, vacuum, sweeper, wet-vac, hand and power tools, cleaning equipment and tools, lawnmower, weed eater, hedge trimmer, and leaf blower.  Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, school staff, and students.

 

Additional Duties:

Performs light maintenance duties, including changing light fixtures, moving furniture, and performing minor repairs to equipment.

Unlocks/secures building and rooms.

Performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum Education and Training

Requires High School Diploma, GED, or Bronze level WorkKeys/WIN Assessment.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a telephone and cleaning equipment. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, climb, balance and perform manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.

Data Conception:

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communication:

Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.  Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

Language Ability:

Requires the ability to read a variety of policy and procedures manuals and maintenance manuals. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with clarity, voice control and confidence.

Intelligence:

Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Requires the ability to learn and understand principles and techniques, to make routine independent judgments in absence of supervision, and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.  Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Manual Dexterity:

Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment, control knobs, and switches.  Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities.  Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Verbal Aptitude:

Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds.

Numerical Aptitude:

Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, and to determine time. 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination:

Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using specialized machinery.

Color Discrimination:

Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament:

Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a slight degree.

Physical Communication:

Requires the ability to talk and/or hear with talking defined as expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and hearing being defined as perceiving nature of sounds by ear.
