General Statement of Job

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of basic maintenance and craftsman tasks in order to construct and provide safe structures and a safe environment for students and school personnel. Loads, transports, unloads, and delivers equipment, materials/supplies, and tools to District sites as needed.

Cleans and maintains assigned vehicle(s), tools, and test equipment. Performs all duties in compliance with District and department policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety. Have the ability to use word processor and spread sheet computer programs.

Reports to: Coordinator of Special Projects.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with limited supervision.
  • Follow oral and written communications.
  • Communicate in a professional manner and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Have knowledge of all NFPA codes and standards for Fire, Sprinkler, Security, and Electrical.
  • Have knowledge of application of software programs and computer skills.
  • Having a working knowledge of Honeywell (Notifier/ Firelite) fire alarm systems is preferred.
  • Prioritize work to insure each facility’s systems are operating properly.
  • Maintain, repair, test, and inspect all fire alarm/suppression and security systems/ equipment in accordance with NFPA and UL.
  • Analyze blue prints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm system and/or other related electrical systems for the purpose of determining proper installation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Collect and maintain electronic documentation of all required fire alarm and security system work, inspections, and required documents.
  • Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures of systems.
  • Inform personnel regarding alarm procedures and/or status of work requests.
  • Inspect electrical/ fire alarm/ security systems and their components in order to evaluate conditions, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventative maintenance.
  • Install electrical system components as assigned (e.g. audio/ visual devices, pull stations, detectors, etc.).
  • Respond to after-hours calls relating to fire and security alarm system needs.
  • Monitor the electrical/ fire alarm/ security system work of outside contractors (e.g. new school sites, electrical system upgrades, major renovations, etc.) to ensure all is installed per local, state, federal, district codes, regulations, and specifications.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of work completed and documents activities as required.
  • Coordinate and communicate with various groups of individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, District/school administrators and staff, vendors and service providers as needed.
  • Attend training, meetings, workshops, etc. as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Create, file, and send electronic reports.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience. 

Additional Duties:

Perform all other Maintenance/Custodial related duties as required by the supervisor.

May be required to serve as team leader on repairs and projects.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Related 2-year Tech Degree, or Gold Level WorkKeys, or WIN Readiness Assessment at Gold Level
  • IT background is preferable.
  • Must have the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing ladders or walking.
  • Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise.
  • Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is essential. 
  • Must be available after hours for emergency repairs as required.
  • Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license. 

All candidates must be able to pass an extensive background investigation before being hired.
