General Statement of Job

  1. Ability to work unsupervised, performs a variety of basic maintenance and craftsman tasks in order to construct and provide safe structures and a safe environment for students and school personnel. Loads, transports, unloads, delivers equipment, materials/supplies, and tools to District sites as needed.
  2. Cleans and maintains assigned vehicle(s), tools, and test equipment. Performs all duties in compliance with District and department policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.
  3. Must be available after hours for emergency repairs as required.
  4. Have the ability to use District technology and required maintenance related software
  5. Must have the ability to get along with fellow workers and personnel at the schools throughout the district. Must have good character.
  6. Prompt and regular attendance is essential.

 

Reports to: Assistant Director of Maintenance.

 

Example of Duties and Responsibilities

Lead Functions:

  1. Assign or assist the Coordinator in assigning/scheduling work orders for the plumbing crew as required and in maintaining necessary maintenance records.
  2. Be able to give and receive oral & written instructions.
  3. Have the ability and willingness to train plumbing team.
  4. Must be willing to work the “On-Call” rotation.
  5. Make recommendations to the coordinator for equipment that needs replacing.
  6. Be able to read & understand blueprints, specifications and plumbing codes.
  7. Locate and order (with approval) supplies and repair parts according to state procurement law.
  8. Must be willing to show leadership by example.

Essential Functions:

  1. Have the ability and assist other trade technicians whenever work tasks cross.
  2. Make regular inspection of plumbing systems and repair or replace, as necessary.
  3. Insure that proper preventive maintenance is performed on plumbing systems and components.
  4. Make routine repairs and replacements to plumbing systems including kitchen equipment.
  5. Maintain necessary DHEC certification for backflow prevention inspection/repairs and, be proficient with underground utility location tools and devices.
  6. Must have Class “A” CDL license.
  7. Maintain sprinkler systems and storm drainage systems.
  8. Maintain grease traps.
  9. Be able to operate backhoe and other earth moving equipment.
  10. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain and repair electric water heaters, gas water heaters and pumps.

 

Additional Duties:

Perform all other Maintenance/Custodial related duties as required by the supervisor.

Will be required to serve as team leader on repairs and projects.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent, Win Assessment-Gold level, college or related technical degree.
  2. Must be in good physical condition. Able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing ladders or walking.
  3. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.
  4. Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license.
