Hours/Days:  230 Days / 8  Hours per day

General Statement of Job

 

Under regular supervision, performs a variety of basic maintenance and craftsman tasks in order to construct and provide safe structures and a safe environment for students and school personnel. Loads, transports, unloads and delivers equipment, materials/supplies, and tools to District sites as needed.

Cleans and maintains assigned vehicle(s), tools, and test equipment. Performs all duties in compliance with District and department policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety. Have the ability to use a word processor and spreadsheet computer programs.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and trains the school’s custodians.  
  • Schedules, coordinates, directs and performs routine and comprehensive facility/custodial maintenance of assigned facilities. 
  • Vacuums, shampoos, and spot cleans carpets and furniture; washes windows.
  • Removes trash in accordance with established procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, locker rooms, child care center, health occupations facilities, and other facilities; orders and stocks facilities with paper and supplies.
  • Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
  • Responds to service requests, coordinates resources and implements the set up and take down of furniture and equipment for a wide variety of campus and community events.
  • Performs various maintenance and custodial duties such as installation and repair to fixtures in restrooms, labs, and classrooms.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs minor plumbing and electrical problems; replaces a variety of light bulbs and lighting accessories.
  • Assists with, and performs refinishing of hardwood floors.
  • Identifies stains and uses proper chemicals for removal.
  • Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.
  • Operates power equipment such as man lifts, carpet extractors, pressure washer, hand and power tools, and campus vehicles.
  • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance logs and email to document completion of jobs and daily activity.

Additional Duties:

Performs custodial and maintenance duties in and around campus facilities; troubleshoots, performs minor repairs and responds to emergency calls for service; implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of campus and community events; works closely with employees and the public to meet the custodial and maintenance needs of the area; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations. Perform all other Maintenance/Custodial related duties as required by the supervisor.

 

Special Requirements:

GED, or a High School Diploma, or Silver Level WorkKeys, or WIN Readiness Assessment at Silver level.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to work with limited supervision. Methods of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations; handling and disposing of hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens with care.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing ladders or walking.
  • Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.  Prompt and regular attendance is essential. 
  • Must be available after hours for emergency repairs as required.
  • Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license. 

All candidates must be able to pass an extensive background investigation before being hired.
